Media Replace at Washington Water Pumping Station

The Washington Water Department has completed the ten year filter media replacement project for four of the eight filter beds. Workers from the Street Department, Sanitation Department , and Water Department , with the assistance of the Reynolds, Inc. Vac truck removed the old media. This media consisted of 12 inches of filter grade sand and 18 inches of anthracite. Each of the filters measured 20’ by 20’ and contained 900 nozzles. By cleaning and reusing the filter nozzles the city saved $24,000. New sand and anthracite was then installed in the filters. This upgrade helps to ensure the city of Washington a continuous safe water supply.
